Community isn't something I have experienced since moving to the South, my close-knit bunch of like-minded folks were back in Brooklyn. It is something that has been absent in my day to day. I am often more prone to sticking to myself since my ideologies clash with much of those that reside in the South. But community sustains us, reminds us to reach beyond the self. Since moving below the Mason-Dixon line I haven't formed a group, my friends are diverse and scattered. Maybe that is just the paradigm of making life changes in adulthood. But who are my people? Where is my group? Who do I turn to do mud through the messiness of life with?

Flashback to a few months ago, Jessica of Jes + Em asked if I would be interested in teaching a workshop they were arranging. A gathering of like-minded folks assembling for an afternoon of dyeing and dining. People interested in the grit of life, the blissful moments captured through experience and engagement rather than stagnant consumerism.

The event was located in North Georgia at the stunning Rivendell. We were surrounded by wildflowers and fields, roaming horses and rhythmic summer breezes. We dine on local fare with indigo stained hands and basked in the sun on quilted picnic blankets. Every summer Saturday should follow this formula.
